Aron John signs Homegrown contract with Charlotte FC

CHARLOTTE FC
Charlotte FC Academy alumnus Aron John signed a Homegrown Player contract with the MLS first team through June 2028 with an option for the 2028-29 season.

Aron John is a first teamer with his hometown soccer club.

John, a midfielder and alumnus of Charlotte FC’s academy, signed a Homegrown Player deal through June 2028 with the MLS club with an option for the 2028-29 season.
John, 20, is Charlotte’s fourth academy graduate to earn a homegrown contract, following Nimfasha Berchimas, Jack Neeley and Brian Romero. John, 20, made his MLS debut in a 3-1 win against Austin FC as a substitute.

“We continue to see growth within our organization as more of our young players progress through the pro player pathway with Aron being the latest graduate” general manager Zoran Krneta said in a statement. “Aron has quickly risen since he arrived in our academy four years ago and we believe there will be continued positive progression as he takes the next step with the first team.”

Before signing the homegrown deal, John rose to the matchday roster for three games. He had a strong 2024 campaign with Crown Legacy FC that resulted in MLS Next Pro Best XI honors after tallying eight goals and a league record-tying 10 assists, which tied for third in goal contributions.

John, who joined the Charlotte FC Academy at 16, earned the club’s inaugural Academy Player of the Year award following a six goal, six assist campaign in 2022-23. He made six regular season appearances off the Crown Legacy bench in his first professional season, starting with his debut at 17 years, 2 months and 8 days old on June 11, 2023, against Columbus Crew 2.
