| Sam Greiner, who led West Charlotte High to the North Carolina 3A state title in 2024 and 8A West Region final in 2025, is no longer Lions coach, according to a letter from Principal Paula Cook to football parents. |
Sam Greiner is no longer West Charlotte High football coach.
School Principal Paula Cook announced Friday in an email to football parents that Greiner and the school are parting ways. The email read:
“Hello West Charlotte High School Football Families: I want to share with you that Coach Greiner will no longer serve as the head football coach at West Charlotte High School. We appreciate his service to our student-athletes and to the WCHS community over the years. As we begin the search for our next head football coach, we remain committed to finding a leader who will uphold the values of West Charlotte High School and provide an exceptional experience for our student-athletes. We are dedicated to selecting a coach who will help our students thrive on and off the field. Thank you for your continued support of West Charlotte High School. We wish you the very best during this holiday season.”

Messages seeking comment were left with Cook and Greiner.
Greiner led the Lions to the 2024 3A state championship against Fayetteville 71st and lost to Hough last week in the 8A regional final. During Greiner’s tenure, West Charlotte’s record improved every year until 2025 season when the Lions went 10-3.
This is a developing story that will be updated as more information is made available.
