Re-entry job fair connects justice impacted with stability

Justice-impacted job seekers can get face time with employers at the Allegra Westbrooks Regional Library Oct. 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The job fair is hosted by Gaining Freedom, Incorporated in collaboration with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library. The employers invited are from industries like construction, healthcare, logistics and transportation, and retail, hospitality and customer service. Founder Paul Gaines said there will also be vendors with resources for housing, financial literacy and mental health.

Gaining Freedom Inc. is a non-profit organization in Charlotte dedicated to assisting formerly incarcerated resources to successfully re-enter society. The organization also has community and youth outreach committees to assist young adults with staying on the “straight path,” or coaching recently released individuals to avoid recidivism.

Gaining Freedom also holds free weekly chess lessons at the Allegra Westbrooks Library to keep young adults involved in activities to strengthen their self-esteem and establish a positive hobby. The chess lessons take place on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Gaines also said they hope to establish a women’s committee in the future to address the specific challenges formerly incarcerated women face upon release.

Allegra Westbrooks Library is located at 2412 Beatties Ford Road. Attendees can register online at https://cmlibrary.bibliocommons.com/events/68c9c1504d5cf93f102a0724 or call Jeremy Lytal at Allegra Westbrooks Library at (704) 416-3000.
