College theater troupe to showcase NC playwrights

Summer stock theater is highlighting new plays written by North Carolinians.
Common Thread Theatre Collective, a collaboration between Davidson College and North Carolina A&T State University, will kick off its summer season by showcasing directed and rehearsed readings of plays. After each reading of the winning entries, there will be a discussion in which the audience can engage with the playwrights, directors, and actors.
Selected pieces will receive approximately 15 hours of rehearsal as well as two readings in Davidson at the Barber Theatre and two readings in Greensboro at the Paul Robeson Theatre.
Each selected piece will be assigned a creative team that includes a director, stage manager and cast. After each reading will be a post-show discussion to receive feedback from audience members. The winning playwrights will earn $500.
Common Thread Theatre tells stories that center marginalized communities in new, fresh ways. The collaboration between students, faculty and staff on both campuses as well as local professional theatre artists.
