The North Carolina Courage have added a championship-winning couple to its ownership group.
Lauren Holiday, who won a FIFA Women’s World Cup title with the U.S. National Team and her husband, two-time NBA winner Jrue Holiday, have joined the NWSL club’s investor group. The couple’s investment is through the Holiday Family Trust and Lauren Holiday will also serve as club advisor and ambassador. The Holidays join an investor lineup that includes tennis Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka and retired St. Louis Rams standout Torry Holt.
“This club represents the future of women’s soccer — not just in how we play the game, but in how we empower athletes, connect with communities, and build a sustainable future for the sport,” she said in a statement. “I believe deeply in the mission and vision of the Courage, and I’m excited to contribute in meaningful ways—especially when it comes to player development and overall culture.”
Lauren Holiday earned a pair of Olympic gold medals (2008, 2012) in addition to her 2015 World Cup win.
"Lauren’s championship pedigree, leadership experience, and genuine passion for the growth of women’s soccer make her an invaluable addition to our ownership group," Courage majority owner and chairperson Steve Malik. “Her involvement will elevate our club both on and off the pitch, and her insight into player experience and development will help us create the best possible environment for our athletes, staff, and supporters.”
Holiday helped the U.S. to gold at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and was a key contributor to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup title squad. She played multiple positions throughout her career, including attacking midfielder and forward.
Holiday helped FC Kansas City win consecutive NWSL titles in 2014 and 2015 and earned the league’s inaugural league most valuable player award in 2013. In 2016, after retiring as a player, she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor while pregnant with her first child. Holiday’s road to recovery led the NWSL to create the Lauren Holiday Impact Award, given annually to a player for outstanding contributions to their local community.
Jrue Holiday, who plays for the Boston Celtics, is a two-time NBA All-Star, six-time NBA All-Defensive Team, and earned Olympic gold with the U.S. (2020 and 2024). He was a key contributor to the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2021 NBA title team and helped the Celtics to the 2024 title.
