The global sanctioning body for soccer is investing in Charlotte.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced last week the organization will make a $1 million donation to each of the 11 cities that will host matches at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, including Charlotte. With two major international tournaments scheduled for the United States over the next year – including the FIFA World Cup – FIFA will invest in each host city build community-focused mini-pitches and support other social projects.

“We care about our social role, which is why we are in the process of establishing the FIFA Foundation USA,” said Infantino, who toured Bank of America Stadium in advance of the Club World Cup. “Also, for the legacy of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, we will contribute $1 million to each of the 11 cities that will host matches to support local social projects.

“This means ideally installing mini pitches and organizing soccer activities with children on these pitches in areas where they are most needed in each city, something that will ensure that the impact of this groundbreaking global tournament will be felt for years to come.”

The announcement continues the momentum building into the tournament and further underlines the positive social, sporting and economic impact the inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the US and worldwide.

Last week a socioeconomic analysis of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup by OpenEconomics found the competition could generate as much as $21.1 billion in global gross domestic product, including $9.6 billion in the U.S. The study also revealed the club showcase could generate $17.1 billion in gross output and unlock $3.36 billion in social benefits across the nation, while supporting the creation of 105,000 jobs.
