| Charlotte FC signed U.S. Men's National Team midfielder Eryk Williamson, 27, from the Portland Timbers for $100,000 in general allocation money. |
Charlotte FC added a veteran midfielder with MLS experience with its first winter signing.
The club announced Wednesday the acquisition of Eryk Williamson from the Portland Timbers in exchange for $100,000 in 2025 general allocation money with an additional $250,000 going to Portland if he meets contractual incentives. The Timbers keep a sell-on percentage for Williamson if Charlotte transfers him outside of MLS.
“Eryk is a player who our front office and coaches know very well and brings proven MLS production to our midfield,” Charlotte General Manager Zoran Krneta said in a statement. “He is a versatile player who is creative and dynamic on the ball which combined with his knowledge of the league makes him an excellent fit for our team. He’s won titles at both the club and national team level, and we’re excited to welcome him to Charlotte.”

Williamson, 27, has played in 100 MLS matches, including the postseason, for the Timbers, where he scored six goals and tallied 20 assists. Williamson has earned six caps with the United States Men’s National Team and started the final of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Final where the U.S. beat Mexico 1-0.
A native of Alexandria, Virginia, who played collegiately at Maryland, Williamson missed significant parts of the 2021 and 2023 MLS seasons due to knee injuries.
Charlotte opens the season Feb. 22 at Seattle Sounders FC.
