GASTON COUNTY
Shannon Myers, who takes over as Gaston County social services director on Jan. 6, was assistant division director of adult social work community social work for Mecklenburg County.

Shannon Myers will join Gaston County as the new Department of Social Services director.

Myers, who succeeds the retiring Angela Karchmer, starts on Jan. 6, moves to Gaston County’s DSS from Mecklenburg County, where she was assistant division director overseeing adult social work and community social work programs and the Age-Friendly Mecklenburg initiative for the Services for the Adult Division.

“I am super excited to be coming on board. I look forward to meeting the Gaston County DSS staff and working collaboratively to serve the employees and Gaston County residents,” said Myers, who is pursuing her Ph. She has a proven track record of strategic planning, helping to create opportunities, and innovation in how services are offered to residents,” Gaston Assistant County Manager Steve Eaton said. “Her concern and ideas for the wellbeing of staff and the professional development of staff jumped out at me as most impressive.”

Myers earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and business from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s in healthcare administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus.
