The fog of war inspires stage drama ‘Boys to Baghdad’

BNS Productions founder Rory Sheriff turned his experience as a soldier serving in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm into the stage drama “Boys to Baghdad,” which will be performed Nov. 8-10 at Central Piedmont Community College.

The BNS Productions founder and creative director turned combat with the Army during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm into a stage drama Nov. 8-10 at Central Piedmont Community College’s Parr Center.
Sheriff wrote and directed the play, which draws from Sheriff’s personal experience and lends authenticity and detail to the production.

“‘Boys to Baghdad is a story about brotherhood, sacrifice, and survival,’” Sheriff said in a statement. “It is about the emotional and psychological scars war leaves on young soldiers who thought they were invincible. This play is a tribute to all who serve and have served, especially those who paid the ultimate price.”

Sheriff channeled his experience into a narrative that follows young soldiers on their journey from recruits to warriors dealing with the stress of combat. “Boys to Baghdad” was awarded Best Play at The Taste of Theatre in Chicago.
