Charlotte Film Festival highlights independent cinema

The Charlotte Film Festival will showcase films and filmmakers from 17 countries Sept. 24-29 at The Independent Picture House.

The Charlotte Film Festival is back for its 16th annual showcase of films and filmmakers from around the world.

The Sept. 24-29 festival at The Independent Picture House, 4237 Raleigh St., Suite 4, has a lineup of more than 130 films from 17 countries. Single tickets are $13, with the option to purchase bundles of five ($45) and 10 ($70) online at https://charlottefilmfestival.org/2024/tickets.

The festival will also showcase independent movies, including:

• “Clemente” by David M. Altrogge

• “Chronicles of a Wandering Saint” by Tomas Gomez Bustillo

• “Frankie Fresko” by Steven Kostanski

• “Timestalker” by Alice Lowe

• “The Birthday” by Eugenio Mira

• “A Different Man” by Aaron Schimberg

• “The Girl With the Needle” by Magnus von Horn

CFF, founded in 2006, highlights a diverse lineup of short fiilms and documentaries produced by storytellers from underrepresented groups. Twenty-eight filmmakers return to the showcase, and will host panel discussions and workshops on the weekend like Carolina Crafted Films: Regional Filmmaker Roundtable. The festival will open Sept. 24 with a screening of Sav Rodgers’ “Chasing Chasing Amy.” Rodgers will be on hand for a post-screening talkback as well as a meet-and-greet.

Another presentation is the Sept. 27 screening of Caroline Lindy’s “Your Monster” with co-star Tommy Dewey, who will be on hand for a talkback session.
