‘The Lion King’ roars onto the Charlotte stage

The cast of the Charlotte production of “The Lion King” is set for a monthlong run.
The perennial favorite will take the Belk Theater stage from Aug. 8-Sept. 8. For more than 21 years, the North American touring production has been seen by over 23 million people over 10,000 performances in over 90 cities.
The Charlotte cast: Peter Hargrave as Scar, Gerald Ramsey as Mufasa, Mukelisiwe Goba as Rafiki, Nick Cordileone as Timon, Nick LaMedica as Zazu, John E. Brady as Pumbaa, Darian Sanders as Simba, Khalifa White as Nala, Forest VanDyke as Banzai, Martina Sykes as “Shenzi,” and Robbie Swift as Ed.
Bryce Christian Thompson and Julian Villela will alternate the role of Young Simba while Ritisha Chakraborty and Leela Chopra will swap Young Nala.
“The Lion King” will play Tuesdays-Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Aug. 8; Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sundays at 1 and 6:30 p.m.
