Charlotte 49ers women's soccer rolls out 2024 schedule

CHARLOTTE ATHLETICS
The Charlotte 49ers, who went 9-7-4 in 2023, will play 10 home matches in 2024, including games against Clemson and Mississippi State, a pair of top 14 programs from a year ago.

Charlotte women’s soccer schedule will include 10 matches on campus, including a pair of top 14 programs from 2023.

The 49ers’ home schedule includes games against Clemson and Mississippi State – who finished last season ranked third and 14th respectively in the United Soccer Coaches poll – at Transamerica Field.

“We are very excited about this extremely competitive non-conference schedule we have put together,” 49ers coach Brandi Fontaine said in a statement. “Not only do we have some great road matches, but the opportunity to host some of the top teams in the country right here in Charlotte is amazing for our players and the program. I believe this will give us everything we need to prepare for what will be a very competitive American Athletic Conference schedule. The team is up for the challenge, and I believe in this group to rise to the occasion.”

Charlotte, which went 9-7-4 in 2023, will start the 2024 campaign with exhibitions at USC Upstate and against Charleston Southern at Transamerica Field before opening the regular season with three straight home games. The 49ers open against UNCW on Aug. 15 followed by TCU three days later and Mississippi State, which advanced to last year’s NCAA Round of 16 on Aug. 22.

Charlotte will hit the road for three nonconference matches: Appalachian State on Aug. 25, North Carolina State (Aug. 28) and UNC Greensboro (Sept. 1). Charlotte closes its nonconference schedule with home matches against Campbell on Sept. 5 and Clemson on Sept. 8. The Tigers advanced to last year’s Final Four before losing to national title winner Florida State.

Charlotte, which went 4-3-2 in its American Athletic Conference debut, open conference play with a Sept. 12 home match against South Florida, a road date at Florida Atlantic and East Carolina at home. October kicks off with road games at Memphis and Alabama-Birmingham before returning to campus for the final Sunday home match against Texas San Antonio on Oct. 13. The final four games include road games at Tulsa and Rice and home dates against North Texas and Temple.

The AAC’s top eight teams will advance to the conference tournament in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. The title match will be contested on Nov. 10.
