Carolina Ascent soccer unveils new name and branding

CAROLINA ASCENT
Carolina Ascent Football Club unveiled its new name and branding ahead of its August debut in USL Super League.

Charlotte’s newest soccer franchise has a name and branding.

Carolina Ascent Football Club, one of eight founding teams in the Division I USL Super League, unveiled its name and brand on Thursday. Ascent and Breeze were the final picks after a series of listening sessions with fans and supporters as well as online surveys.

The Ascent’s branding incorporates blue, orange, gold, white and purple, includes a soccer ball set in motion between a mountain with sunrise view on the top and ocean waves and the sun’s reflection on the bottom. The team’s name is above the waves, flanked by a star and crescent moon.

U.S. Soccer Federation in February approved USL Super League’s Division One application, confirming it as the second top-level sanctioning organization for women’s soccer in the nation along with National Women’s Soccer League, which includes Cary-based North Carolina Courage. Beside Ascent, which is coached by former U.S. Women’s National Team goalkeeper coach Philip Poole, USL Super League will debut with teams in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dallas/Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lexington, Ky., Spokane, Wash, Tampa Bay, Fla., and Washington, D.C.

“The USL Super League is looking to grow the women’s game and to expand the opportunities for women to compete at the highest professional level,” U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said in February. “As with all our professional leagues, we look forward to collaborating with the USL Super League and extend our best wishes to the clubs as they gear up for the upcoming season this August.”

Season tickets for Ascent home games are on sale, starting at $12 per game in the Supporters Section.
