Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity hosts regional convention

Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will hold its regional conference in Charlotte Feb. 29-March 3.

Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will bring its regional conference to Charlotte next week.


The Alphas’ 93rd Alpha South Regional Convention will be held at the Charlotte Convention Center, 501 S College St.


Community programs: 


Feb. 29


• HBCU Fair (9 a.m.-1 p.m.)


In partnership with UNCF and Thurgood Marshall College Fund, there will be a showcase of more than three dozen Historically Black Colleges and Universities. High school juniors and seniors can earn application fee waivers, on-the-spot admissions, scholarships, and career counseling. Over $20,000 in scholarships will be awarded to select registrants in attendance. 


• Heart of Gold Blood Drives – (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) and March 2 9 a.m.-2 p.m.


The American Red Cross and Alpha South collaborate to encourage blood donation.

• Charlotte Hornets Game Day (7 p.m.)


The fraternity will host a night of basketball with the  Hornets taking on the Milwaukee Bucks. Tickets are available for purchase https://hornets.spinzo.com/?group=alpha-phi-alpha-south-regional-conference—qcws.

Public program, 7-9 p.m.


Divine 9 members and the public are welcome.

March 3


Graduate School and Career Resource Fair (9 a.m.-2 p.m.)


A dozen universities and more than 30 employers from government, nonprofit, and the corporate sectors will be on hand to recruit for graduate school and employment opportunities. Graduate school application fee waivers, admissions opportunities, scholarships, paid internships, and immediate hiring opportunities are available. The event is free and open to the public.

Alpha South Wellness Screening (9 a.m.-2 p.m.)


Novant Health, Avant Pharmacy, Atrium Health, Inside Edge, Care Access, and Humana have partner to promote preventive health and diversity in medical research. There will be free health screenings, including body mass index, blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol - and consultations from health care providers. Pre-event registration is strongly encouraged but not required.
