North Carolina Courage forward Mille Gejl 22 has been loaned to Montpellier HSC of Division 1 Féminine effective immediately.

North Carolina Courage has loaned Danish forward Mille Gejl to a team in France’s top division.

The Courage sent Gejl to Montpellier HSC of Division 1 Féminine effective immediately with the deal, which runs through June. Montpellier, which is fifth in its league with 19 points through 13 games, will have the option to buy her contract outright. Gejl will be eligible to play on Feb. 3 at Dijon.

Gejl, who played in 15 regular season matches in 2023, scored twice for the Courage, including the game-winner in a 1-0 result against Kansas City in the season opener on March 25. She also had an assist in 502 minutes of play. She played in three UKG Challenge Cup matches, with a goal to help the Courage repeat as champions.

“We were fully supportive of her throughout this process and wanted to ensure she was comfortable,” Courage coach Sean Nahas said in a statement. “She is a young, talented player who we hope to see thrive in France. We will continue to follow her on her journey this season and look forward to seeing her progression throughout.”

Gejl no longer counts towards the Courage’s active roster, which is at 31 players or require an international spot. Twenty-five players are under contract, and three of six available international spots are occupied.
