| Goalkeeper David Bingham, who has spent 13 Major League Soccer seasons with three teams, signed a free agent deal with Charlotte FC. |
Charlotte FC has added goalkeeping depth with extensive MLS experience.
The Crown signed free agent keeper David Bingham to a guaranteed contract through the 2025 season. Bingham, 34, who is in his 13th season, has played 202 matches with three clubs — San Jose, LA Galaxy and Portland, where he started 19 matches for the Timbers last year with five clean sheets.
“David has been a well-respected goalkeeper in this league for over a decade and we’re excited to add him to our goalkeeping options for the 2024 season,” Charlotte FC General Manager Zoran Krneta said in a statement. “He’s going to come in and add competition to our goalkeeper group, and as a veteran player, provide valuable experience for our young goalkeepers to learn from daily.”

Bingham, who started his MLS career with San Jose in 2011, became the Earthquakes’ starter in 2015 and appeared in 97 matches for the club as well as going on loan with San Antonio Scorpions and Strømmen IF. He was traded to the Galaxy in 2018 and started 85 matches and helped lead the club to the playoffs the next season before joining Portland in 2022, where he made 21 appearances for the Timbers.
The Crown has an experienced starter in goal with Kristijan Kahlina, who has been on the team since its debut in 2022. They also have George Marks, a third-year pro. Adrían Zendejas, who was on loan, had his contract option declined.
