Vice President Kamala Harris will be in the Queen City Jan. 11.
She’ll be here with Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to talk about reducing gun violence and meet with educators, parents, and gun safety advocates to announce funding from the bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Money from the federal program will go to schools across the country, for better student access to mental health resources.
This will be Harris’ ninth trip to North Carolina since she was sworn in three years ago. She visited Greensboro in September and Charlotte last June to talk about reproductive rights.
Details of Harris’ latest visit have not yet been released. She was in Myrtle Beach, S.C., last weekend.

President Joe Biden appointed Harris to oversee the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Last month, she announced initiatives to push for states to pass laws requiring safe firearms storage and reporting lost and stolen guns.
There’s already been a mass school shooting in 2024. On Jan. 4, a teenager killed a sixth-grade student and injured five in Perry, Iowa.
