The Black Power Rangers Comedy Tour is coming back for another run in Charlotte.

Comics will take the stage at Starlight on 22nd on Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The lineup leans towards a North Carolina flavor with Jordan Centry of Charlotte, Brandi Roberts (Raleigh), founder Wills Maxwell Jr. of Wilmington and Cordero Wilson of New York.

Last year's Charlotte show was at Urban Reader Bookstore, which relocated to a new site.

“This is us building off of what we started last year,” Maxwell said in a statement. “This isn’t just a tour, it’s a movement. We’re going to continue to highlight Black voices and connect Black talent across the South.”

Tickets and information are available at WillsMaxwell.com/Tour2023. Last year’s debut of the all-Black comedy tour curated by Maxwell included four back-to-back stops. This year’s tour has grown to 10 cities including stops in the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

“These are performers that crack me up and I couldn’t be more excited to do this with them,” Maxwell said. “We’ve all seen each other at different shows in North Carolina and it’s just exciting to have shows with all of us at once. I didn’t have to twist anyone’s arm to join me on this adventure, they were all game immediately, and that means a lot to me.”

The Charlotte show is especially close to Centry, where he has produced Starlight on 22nd open mic gatherings for years.

“The point of the tour is to reach as many people as possible and make them laugh,” Maxwell said. “I’m honored to bring the show to a place where audiences already know to expect quality comedy week after week.”
