Southern Area Links gather for Charlotte conference

Members of the Links will gather in Charlotte this week for volunteer service and community outreach.

Organizers expect more than 1,300 members of the international women’s volunteer service organization will convene for the 47th Southern Area conference June 21-25. The five-day gathering will feature a public forum on women’s health, a luncheon honoring local community leaders and service programs, book signings, and vocalists Morris Day and Jeffrey Osborne.

“We are excited to host our conference in the Queen City of Charlotte, North Carolina,” Southern Area Director Sylvia Perry said in a statement. “The Links Incorporated is dedicated to transforming communities through service and programs that have long-lasting impact. And our more than 4,000 members of the Southern Area take great pride in knowing we will positively impact the children and families of the Charlotte Metropolitan area during our time here.”

The conference includes Community Empowerment Day June 23 at Marie G. Davis IB Middle School, 3351 Griffith St., from 2-5 p.m. The day will include services and resources for individuals and families, including health screenings, educational presentations/seminars, HBCU Fair, LEGO competitions to build STEAM, arts and crafts, film, and music.

The Links, founded in Philadelphia in 1946, has more than 17,000 members in 299 chapters across 41 states, Washington, D.C., the Bahamas, and United Kingdom. The Links, Incorporated has a legacy of friends providing service that changes lives. The Southern Area includes 84 chapters with more than 4,000 members in the Bahamas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and the Carolinas.
