June festival celebrates Black food and culture

The third annual Eat Black Charlotte Food & Culture Festival is June 2-11.

June is time to savor and celebrate Black culture and food in Charlotte.  

The third annual Eat Black Charlotte Food & Culture Festival is June 2-11. The showcase starts with Eat Black Charlotte Week when Black-owned food businesses and vendors connect with the dining public by offering deals on menus, hosting special events, and the space for cultural experiences.  

The week will climax June 10 with a festival in partnership with Charlotte Center City Partners from 2-7 p.m. at Victoria Yards and The Market at 7th Street. Confirmed food trucks and carts for the festival are: Ms. DiDi's Caribbean Kitchen, Mariah’s Taco Spot, 22 Street Kitchen, and Ve-go Food Truck.

Participants can register for early access tickets via Eventbrite.

“We’ve received a positive response from the community over the last two years and we are excited to showcase how we’ve incorporated feedback,” said Erique Berry, team leader for Eat Black Charlotte. “Folks want good food, and they want a good experience too. We’re looking forward to giving the people what they want.”
This year’s festival includes:

• Extended hours – goes from 2-7 p.m.

• A centralized location for better access at Victoria Yards in Uptown near the 7th Street Light Rail station at 209 East 7th Street.  

• More food trucks – Nacho Average Truck, Drums VS Flats, and Snow Your Roll are in this year’s lineup.

• Children’s activities – including slime-making from The Gook Factory.

EBCW includes prix fixe menus from more than 20 restaurants, and vendors include well-known eateries such as Cuzzo’s Cuisine and The People’s Market.
