Taylor Calamese’s mission is to help women reach their fitness goals via expansion of her business.
Calamese, 33, owns Charlotte FIT, a pair of fitness centers. A certified personal trainer and weight management specialist, Calamese offers clients services such as personal training, group fitness and nutrition coaching.
Charlotte FIT-North, which opened in 2020 at 1001 East W.T. Harris Blvd., Suite W, “is a women-focused boutique personal training studio located in the University area,” she said. “We offer personal training (in-person and virtual), nutrition coaching, body fat testing, boot camps, corporate wellness, and meal prep services (coming soon).”
A second site, Charlotte Fit-South (10106 Johnston Road, Suite C), opened in January.
“Charlotte FIT focuses on sustainable health habits that people can maintain for life,” Calamese said. “We place a heavy emphasis on education, empowerment, and research-based motivational tools to build consistent health behaviors in the general population.”
Though the fitness center focuses on women, there’s other demographics Calamese assists.
“The majority of people that I work with are adults between the ages of 28-55 looking to lose weight, increase muscle tone, and develop a consistent workout routine to look and feel better,” she said.
Calamese’s fitness passion began at age 12, when she started dancing competitively in tap, jazz and ballet. She later went on to attend Winston-Salem State University on a track scholarship.
“I have always known about being active and being an athlete, but it was not until getting my master’s in kinesiology that I learned the science, prescription, and psychological concepts of leading an active lifestyle,” Calamese said.
A Charlotte native, Calamese grew up less than 10 minutes from the first studio she opened.
“I used to come to The Plaza where Charlotte FIT-North is located all the time as a little girl,” she said. “I never imagined I would open a brick and mortar here.”

Now, living her dream of helping other women reach their fitness goals, Calamese can do so in two different locations. Charlotte Fit-South offers body fat testing, corporate wellness, and personal trainer certification programs.
“I am also excited to be shifting to more of the teaching aspect of health and fitness through my Personal Trainer Certification program being offered Mid-March,” she said. “It is a five-week course powered by WITS that will give participants the lecture and practical-based skills to be successful personal trainers and get access to all of my industry tools and knowledge.”
Classes in the studio range from dance cardio, stretches and sculpt, boot camps and yoga.
Additionally, aside from services dedicated to weight management and wellness, Calamese will soon offer meal prepping services.
The end goal? Calamese says she is “mastering her craft and developing a solid framework of business and health services to truly help people empowered to be well.”
Charlotte FIT South is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., and closed on Sunday.
