Pa-Modou Kah, whose MLS soccer resume includes assistant coaching stops with Vancouver Whitecaps and FC Cincinnati is one of four newcomers to Charlotte FC's coaching staff.

Charlotte FC’s 2023 coaching staff has a pair of familiar faces and several newcomers.

Head coach Christian Lattanzio retained Andy Quy as assistant coach while adding Christian Fuchs, who captained the 2022 team, and Pa-Modou Kah. Aron Hyde is the new goalkeeping coach, and Rohan Sachdev is video coach.

“We are very excited to announce a strong, experienced coaching staff for the upcoming season,” Charlotte sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a statement. “We believe that Andy, Christian, Pa, Aron, and Rohan will bring together a diverse set of experiences and qualifications under Head Coach Christian Lattanzio’s leadership. Assembling a talented technical staff is critical for us to achieve our goals as a club, and it demonstrates that high-level coaches believe in our project here in the Carolinas.”

Quy, who signed a new contract with Charlotte FC, originally joined the club for the 2022 campaign as goalkeeper coach before promotion to interim assistant coach. The England native’s previous experience includes stints with Stoke City in the Premier League, Brentford FC and Burton Albion in the Championship.

Fuchs, a former Austrian national team captain, retired as a player Thursday, ending a 19-year career that included a Premier League title with Leicester City. He finished his career with 577 total club appearances and 78 caps for Austria, as well as Charlotte FC’s debut season, where he made 27 appearances as club captain.

Kah played defender over four years with Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps before retiring in 2017. Before that, Kah won a league title in his native Norway with Vålerenga along with stops in Sweden, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. He also has 10 caps for Norway’s national team.

Kah was an assistant coach for both Vancouver (2017-2018) and FC Cincinnati (2019) before taking over as head coach at Pacific FC, where they went 21-8-14 in the Canadian Premier League over two years and he earned 2021 CPL Coach of the Year. In 2022, Kah was head coach at North Texas SC, the MLS Next Pro side for FC Dallas, leading them to a 13-7-5 record and a playoff berth in their inaugural season.

Hyde joins Charlotte FC from the U.S. Men’s National Team, where was goalkeeper coach. Under his tutelage, the U.S. won the 2021 Concacaf Nations League and 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup before qualifying for and coaching in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Hyde also has spent nine seasons in MLS, most recently with Atlanta United FC where he helped their goalkeepers concede the fourth-fewest goals in MLS in 2017 and 2018. Before that, Hyde spent six seasons with Chicago Fire FC as goalkeeper coach.

Hyde’s playing experience includes Walsall FC, Wycombe Wanderers, and Millwall FC in England.

Sachdev comes to Charlotte from the Portland Timbers, where he was head of analysis for two years. Prior to that, Sachdev, a Clemson graduate, spent two years as video coach for LA Galaxy and one season as video coach for the Houston Dynamo and RGV FC Toros.

Edwards, who was Charlotte’s interim goalkeeper coach under Lattanzio, will take on a new role with Charlotte FC’s MLS Next Pro squad.

“True to our identity, we are excited to assemble a coaching staff that will improve our players and help them reach their full potential,” technical director Bobby Belair said. “Our players have big goals for themselves, both individually and collectively, and the player development standards we have created will help us be successful for years to come.”
