Charlotte FC signed midfielder Brandon Cambridge to a two-year contract.
To secure Cambridge’s services until 2024 with a two-year option, Charlotte traded $50,000 in 2023 general allocation money to the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for Cambridge’s MLS homegrown territory rights. Vancouver would also get a percentage of any future transfer fee Charlotte receives for Cambridge and up to $100,000 in future conditional GAM if certain incentives are met.
Cambridge, 20, played three years at the University of Portland, where he scored 16 goals and had 13 assists in 42 games. He earned West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year in November, becoming the first Pilot to be recognized.
“We were really impressed with Brandon during our scouting across the country at the collegiate level as we prepared for the 2023 MLS SuperDraft Charlotte sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a statement. “We are pleased to sign him to a Homegrown MLS contract as we continue our goal of developing young, talented players. Brandon has shown his potential at Portland and during his time in the Vancouver Whitecaps youth academy.”
