The Charlotte Hornets’ new Statement Edition uniform refreshes a fan favorite.
The upgraded purple uniform unveiled Thursday will be worn 16 times – including nine games at Spectrum Center – starting Oct. 29 against Golden State. The jersey, designed by Jordan Brand, will be available for retail in time for holiday shoppers.
“This is the first time in quite some time we've had a chance to refresh the Statement uniform,” said Seth Bennett, the Hornets’ chief marketing officer and liaison to the NBA on branding. “The mindset around the statement uniform it’s rooted in the players, it’s about their commitment to the game, the fact that these are the best basketball players in the world and what that takes and what are those attributes that we're able to live out in a uniform design.”
The fourth itineration of Charlotte’s Statement series includes the “Hornets” wordmark on the jersey chest and numbers front and back in white with teal trim and player name in white with no outline. The word “Charlotte” appears on the bottom left front above the jocktag.
Also:
• The side panels feature a teal cell pattern that continues onto the shorts in a design inspired by a stinger.
The shorts include a “C-cell” logo on the waistband and the team’s secondary logo on each leg.
• The jersey and shorts have a tone-on-tone cell pattern at the openings for the neck, arms and legs.
• A white No. 6 on a black background patch honoring the legacy of Boston Celtics great Bill Russell adorns the right shoulder, as it does for every NBA uniform.
“I would say about this uniform, there’s a certain vibrancy and in the between the players and the relentlessness of our team and the attacking nature of a hornet,” Bennett said, “so there’s a little bit of our team DNA and our brand DNA weaved into this.”
The Hornets are scheduled to wear the Statement Edition for all eight Saturday home games, including Dec. 31 against Brooklyn and Jan. 14 against Boston as well as a Sunday date April 2 against Toronto.
