Fresh off the success of Fresh2Death installation at the Mint Museum Uptown, Dupp&Swat is hosting Fresh2Death:Streetwhere? Sept. 10-11 at Camp North End.

Black creative men will display their talents – and swag – at Camp North End this weekend.

Fresh2Death: Streetwhere? builds on the creative energy tapped into by the Fresh2Death installation at the Mint Museum earlier this year. Dupp&Swat is hosting the two-day showcase of fashion, art, culture, food, music, streetwear and retail at Camp North End’s Ford Building, 1824 Statesville Ave. The event will shine a spotlight on seven brands led by Black men from Charlotte.

“Though a few people think the phrase has a negative connotation with ‘death,’ we translate it to mean that we’ll be fresh, fly, innovative, classic and relevant ‘til the end of time,” said Davita Galloway, co-founder of Dupp&Swat. “We adopted the phrase because what we create is rooted in culture. It’s one of those things, where you know, you know.”

Galloway and her brother Dion launched Dupp&Swat in 2010 to align with the needs of Black creatives in the Charlotte region. The inaugural Fresh2Death installation at the Mint Museum Uptown drew more than 1,500 visitors.

“Because of the positive outpouring and feedback from our first Fresh2Death installation, we have created spinoffs in which Streetwhere? is one,” Galloway said. “As each designer has their own aesthetic and brand, the environment and scene for each pop-up will be unique and provide a different experience. They put the ‘where’ in Streetwhere?”

Seven brands will be featured in the “F2D: Streetwhere?” market on Sept. 10 and fashion show hosted by Ohavia Phillips on Sept. 11:

• Quantanamobay by Jaquan Thompson Westcott Studio by Shane Farrow NiVet Clothing by Tevin Baskerville

• LVC Drip Gods by Antoine Scott + Demetrius Ross

• Nu-Mars Creations by Isaiah Milton F4mily Matters by Samir Hamid Daniel Baptiste by Daniel Baptiste

“We wanted to make a statement with black male designers because their perspective is important,” Dion Galloway said. “They are the pulse and are creating what’s next. Their swag is different, they’re the face of hip hop culture, from innovative edge to luxe.”

Admission to the market is free and runs from 12-9 p.m. each day and will feature vendors, vegan food trucks, installations, culture, streetwear, DJs, and workshops curated by Makayla Binter.

Workshops facilitated by Charlotte artists will convene on topics including street photography, sneaker and clothing customization and poetry sessions. Paid N Full Car Club will be on site with 20 classic 1980s-90s European automobiles.

The fashion show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets for the fashion show are $40 per person and available at duppandswat.com.

“This fashion show will be atypical and innovative with plenty of energy and tons of surprises,” Davita said. “Each Fresh2Death experience is a new iteration, a new event/happening.”
