The Society Inc.-Supporting the Arts has chartered a new chapter in Charlotte.
The Society is a national nonprofit organization of women of color enhancing, exposing, and promoting youth in the arts. The Greater Charlotte Chapter, the nonprofit’s 31st, includes 20 professional women addressing those challenges.
Prior to earning chapter-elect status, the Charlotte members supported local nonprofits like JazzArts Charlotte and The Arts Empowerment Project.
“Chartering comes at a time when Charlotte is embarking on development of a comprehensive cultural plan for Charlotte-Mecklenburg,” said Robyn Massey, one of the three local organizers. “Part of our vision is to play a key role in implementation of the cultural plan.”
Chapter officers are: Tiffany Hemmings-Prather (president), Massey (vice president), Kimberly Aldridge, (recording secretary), Olga Kearns Billups, (treasurer), Angela Collins-Lewis, (financial secretary), Loraine Felder (corresponding secretary).
