Terri White is the new president and CEO of Charlotte Museum of History.
White previously worked in development and operations roles at the Heinz History Center and Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh and Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., where she earned a bachelor’s degree at Howard University. She starts work on July 4.
“I am extremely excited by this opportunity to lead The Charlotte Museum of History during its next phase of growth and relevance to the community,” White said in a statement. “As our city and region tackle challenges around important issues such as equity and opportunity, it’s critical that we understand how we got to where we are today. Through its diverse programs and exhibits, and through curation of the 1774 Alexander Rock House and the historic Siloam School, The Charlotte Museum of History offers a singular place for our community to understand its history.”
The museum’s board chose White after a national search with help from the firm Armstrong McGuire.

White, who is pursuing a graduate degree at UNC Charlotte, has served in corporate project management roles at Lowe’s, Ahold Delhaize and American Tire Distributors. She is also a leader executive vice president at the Junior League of Charlotte and an advisory board member at Teach for America North Carolina.
“Terri brings an impressive combination of corporate management experience together with a background in museum operations, events and development,” Dee Dixon, the museum’s board chair, said in a statement. “Her background aligns perfectly with the museum’s new strategic plan and its updated mission, which is to inspire community engagement and to create common ground through education and inclusive storytelling.”
White also earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and master’s in arts management from George Mason University. She’ll continue her studies at UNCC, where she’s studying the economic impact of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
