Charlotte FC has signed forward Kerwin Vargas from Portuguese side C.D. Feirense to a two-year contract with a pair of option years.
The deal, pending a visa for Vargas, Charlotte’s second U-22 initiative player is in effect until 2024 with option years for 2025 and 2026. Vargas, 20, will take an international roster slot on the roster. Vargas’ transfer came two days ahead of the league’s May 4 primary transfer window.
Vargas, a Colombian who joined C.D. Feirense as an academy player, was promoted to the first team last July 2021 and made his senior side debut against FC Famalicão in the Allianz Cup. He scored his first goal in his second league match against C.D. Mafra in a 1-0 win and tallied seven goals in his 28 league appearances.

“We’re excited to finalize the transfer of Kerwin to Charlotte FC ahead of the transfer window closing later this week. He has quickly proven to be a goal-scoring threat at the professional level during his first season in Portugal and has the potential to grow into a well-rounded forward in this league,” sporting director Zoran Krneta.
“He’s a pacey, direct forward who can play on the wing or at striker and is a courageous competitor. He is excited about the move to Charlotte where he can continue to grow into his own in senior football and we look forward to welcoming him in the coming weeks.”
In his first season as a professional, Vargas earned six Man of the Match awards in 2021-22.
