| YMCA OF GREATER CHARLOTTE |
| Charlotte native Stan Law has been appointed the new president and CEO of YMCA of Greater Charlotte. He is currently president and CEO of YMCA of Northwest North Carolina. |
A homegrown YMCA leader is coming back to Charlotte.
Stan Law has been appointed president and CEO of YMCA Greater Charlotte effective in January. Law, who returns to Charlotte from the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, where he holds the same title, succeeds Todd Tibbits, who left in July to lead the YMCA of San Diego County in California.
A Charlotte native, Law launched his career with YMCA of Greater Charlotte as an after-school counselor, working his way up the ranks the leadership positions at the YMCAs of Greater Washington in the nation’s capital and Greater Cincinnati in Ohio. He was president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Birmingham in Alabama before moving to YMCA of Northwest North Carolina in 2017.
“I’m honored to have been selected to lead the YMCA that served me as a child, through swim lessons and camp, and where I began my career,” Law said in a statement. “Returning to Charlotte means coming home. I’m incredibly passionate about the community, and the Y’s ability to serve where the needs are greatest.”

Law faces challenges upon his return to Greater Charlotte. Memberships across its 17 branches have leveled off in 2021 and is slightly over half of pre-pandemic levels while revenue fell by $40 million in 2020. Membership and programming fees account for 90% of the Y’s revenue.
“I’m excited to welcome Stan and know he’s the right person coming to our Y at the right time,” Theresa Drew, board chair of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte said in a statement. “His extensive YMCA background and passion for our mission, connections to the community, and his deep experience in operations, fundraising, strategic planning, marketing and leadership encompass the broad spectrum of qualities our Y needs in its next leader. The board is confident in Stan’s ability to lead our Y through this challenging time and to position us well for the future.”
