| Andy Quy, who spent nine season as a coach in the Premier League with Stoke City, has joined Charlotte FC as goalkeepers coach. |
Andy Quy is no stranger to developing world class goalkeepers.
Quy, Charlotte FC’s new goalkeepers coach, spent 12 years with Stoke City (2007-19) including nine seasons as a Premier League club where he developed World Cup players Thomas Sorensen (Denmark), Jack Butland (England) and Asmir Begovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Quy, who comes to Charlotte after a stint as head of goalkeeping at Burton Albion, will supervise position development throughout the academy.
He is the third assistant on Charlotte head coach Miguel Ángel Ramírez’s staff along with goalkeeper coach Christian Lattanzio and Mikel Antía.
“I’m very excited to come to the Carolinas and join Charlotte FC from the inaugural season. The opportunity to be part of Miguel’s staff and have a hand in building the culture of a new club is incredibly exciting to me,” Quy said in a statement. “For our goalkeepers, I want to foster a competitive culture where players stay driven and continually strive to be their best while developing youngsters throughout the academy so they can one day join our first team.”
Between Stoke and Burton, Quy, 45, was goalkeeping coach for Brentford FC in London for the 2001-20 campaign after Iñaki Caña Pavón left for Arsenal, helping the Bees to a berth in the Sky Bet Championship final and a third-place league finish, their best since 1947. His goalkeeper, David Raya, earned the league’s Golden Glove award with 16 clean sheets.

“Andy comes to us with a proven track record of coaching and developing quality goalkeepers and we’re very excited for him to come to Charlotte and be a part of Miguel’s coaching staff,” Charlotte FC sporting director, Zoran Krneta said. “The goalkeeper position is a vital part of any successful team, and that is especially true in Major League Soccer, so having an experienced coach like Andy gives our club a competitive advantage at the first team level. He is also a key addition for our academy as we produce talented goalkeepers here in the Carolinas.”
