| Charlotte FC launched the Greater Goals program to bring free after-school soccer and literacy instruction to 22 Title I elementary schools in the region. |
Charlotte FC pledged to be more than the latest professional sports franchise in the Queen City.
The Major League Soccer expansion franchise launched its inaugural Greater Goals program, providing free after-school soccer and literacy instruction for 22 Title I elementary schools in the Charlotte region. Greater Goals, which will occur annually at the start of each school year, will include hour-long sessions twice a week with coaches and mentors, focusing on literacy, soccer and social skills. Charlotte FC will work with Creative Player Foundation and Soccer Foundation of Charlotte
“At Charlotte FC, we believe in soccer’s power to bring positive change to the communities we serve,” President Nick Kelly said in a statement. “By providing children access to the game, we deliver on our commitment to education, inclusiveness, and social responsibility. In association with our community partners, Creative Player Foundation and Soccer Foundation of Charlotte, we are very excited to launch the Greater Goals Program which will provide the chance for many young girls and boys to believe in themselves and to feel empowered through soccer.”

Greater Goals is one of three community programs designed to address upward mobility. The others are Pitches for Progress and the Captain’s Academy. Pitches for Progress kicked off with a mini-pitch installation at the Apartments at Sailboat Bay in East Charlotte. It is the first of 22 mini-pitches across the Carolinas, which Kelly said will be completed on a five-year timeline. Captain’s Academy kicks off this fall. Local high school students will meet monthly to hear from local leaders.
