The Charlotte Knights will play in the Southeast Division of the Triple-A East League starting with the 2021 baseball season.

The Charlotte Knights have an expanded home under Major League Baseball’s new league structure for its minor league affiliates under the Professional Development License.

The Knights, who have been in the International League since 1993, are now in the Southeast Division of the Triple-A East League. Twenty of 30 Triple-A teams will play in the East, while the remainder are in the West.

The Knights, who signed on as the Chicago White Sox’ top affiliate through the 2030 season, will continue rivalries with the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays), Gwinnett Stripers (Atlanta Braves), and Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles).

The East also includes the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Miami Marlins), Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers), and the Memphis Redbirds (St. Louis Cardinals).
Interdivision play could bring three new members of the Midwest Division – Iowa (Cubs), Omaha (Royals), and St. Paul (Twins) who join four franchises from the old International League West in Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, Toledo.

For the second consecutive year, the  White Sox assigned Gastonia native Wes Helms as Knights manager.
