The Charlotte Eagles conceded their first PDL regular season home loss.
South Georgia Tormenta FC’s 2-0 win was their first (1-3-1) of the season while Charlotte (6-2-1) squandered chances.
“We just have to finish chances,” Eagles coach Dave Dixon said. “We can’t have that many opportunities. We need more hunger in the box to finish. Whether we were attacking or defending, we got caught on the wrong side of the ball—some of that’s work rate. Some of that’s stupid decisions. There’s no excuse that we shouldn’t get points out of that game.”
Said defender Wilfred Williams: “We have some tired legs. We had some good chances, but we just couldn’t finish our chances, and they finished theirs. We just have to bounce back on Saturday.”
Said midfielder Marco Micaeletto: “As much as I’m frustrated, because I do believe we could have won this game, we are creating chances. We have to look at that positive. We have to get back to training and just forget it—put it in the past and go out on Saturday knowing we’ve got the quality moving forward to create these chances. We just have to be more ruthless and take them. It’s football—some days, ever shot goes in and others days, like today, it doesn’t.”
Charlotte failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities—an issue they have faced all season, despite scoring 20 goals and conceding seven. While Tormenta FC has conceded five goals, they had not scored prior to facing the Eagles.
“We just missed too many and they took their chances,” Micaletto said. “I was actually speaking to Anton [Viden], their keeper, and he actually said throughout the whole season they’ve been struggling—they’ve been creating good play, but couldn’t finish it. The roles are reversed tonight. It’s come back to bite us a little bit.”
