University City Church of God in Christ is heading to Huntersville.

On March 25, UCC completed the purchase of the 25-acre former New Birth – Charlotte campus at 11901 Sam Furr Road, housed on 25 acres of land, off Highway 73.

“I feel as though I am coming home,” senior pastor Michael A. Stevens said. “As a 15-year resident of Lake Norman, I have long-standing ties to North Mecklenburg.  There is so much potential for fellowship and ministry and we look forward to working and worshipping in Huntersville. The University City Church will continue to embrace the surrounding community by loving God, loving people and serving the world.”

UCC, founded in 1994, tripled its membership to 1,500 members at the 7829 Old Concord Road campus. Because of growth and the lack of space, three worship services were held every Sunday, with four on the first Sunday. Since 2009, UCC leased a facility in the University area, with an eye on establishing a long-term, permanent space.  The new church has seating for 2,700 as well as space for Christian education.

University City Church’s ministry includes:

• Sunday school

• Bible study

• Youth and young adult worship

• Community-based outreach.

The church plans to provide an accredited family counseling center, full-service daycare with after school and summer programs as well as life group gatherings and fellowships.
