Former WPEG (FM 98) radio host Nate Quick, died Wednesday following a reported liver ailment.

WPEG personalities No Limit Larry and Tone-X made the announcement Thursday morning, calling Quick "the greatest radio personality ever."

Quick was program director and marketing director at KRNB FM in Dallas, Texas.

Wayne Brown, associate publisher of Who's Who In Black Charlotte and former general manager at WPEG, was at the Charlotte station when Quick was hired from Atlanta in the early 1990s.

"Nate was just a real caring person," Brown said. "Before he moved to Charlotte he was actually homeless, but he was so committed to broadcasting. He did what he had to do to maintain."

Brown said Quick was always willing to help others who were interested in broadcasting as well as emerging artists.

"He really developed the personalities like No Limit Larry," Brown said. "He found him at (Johnson C. Smith University), we got him to intern at the radio station, and now he's on air in the morning."

Brown added that Quick was a loving and private person and says many people probably didn't even know he was ill.

Brian Watts, formerly known as DJ Eazy Ice on Power 98, reported on the web site lalatenews.com the following about Quick's health:

"At times he can respond to voices and tries to move his mouth and open his eyes. If you hold his hand and talk to him, he'll try to squeeze your hand and respond to you."

Quick graduated from Clark Atlanta University, where he started his radio career at WCLK 91.9, the campus radio station. While working at WPEG, Quick met radio legends Skip Murphy and The Wig. They recruited him to the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

"He'll be missed," Brown said. "He was dedicated to the field of broadcasting and the music industry."

I was one of Nates little brother that he took under his wing. I learned how he love life and enjoyed radio and music. He inspired me, and when I remember hanging out with him and laughing at his sometimes lame jokes I still laugh today. Miss him and I still can't believe he is dead.. miss you nate
