Overview

Understand your government. Meet your leaders. Discover how your voice shapes the future of your community.

Have you ever wondered who is responsible for fixing roads, funding schools, overseeing public safety, or making decisions that affect your community? Do you know the difference between the Charlotte City Council, the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners, the Sheriff's Office, and the North Carolina General Assembly?

If not, you're not alone.

Civic Education Day is a free community event designed to make government more understandable, more accessible, and more engaging for everyone.

Join local elected officials, public safety leaders, educators, and community organizations for a day of informative discussions, interactive learning, and meaningful community connections. Through panel discussions, presentations, and a Community Resource Fair, you'll gain a better understanding of how local and state government works and discover the many organizations working every day to serve Mecklenburg County.

Whether you're a student, a first-time voter, a longtime resident, a community leader, or simply someone who wants to become more informed, Civic Education Day offers something for everyone.
