The Kannapolis African-American Museum and Cultural Center, Inc. (KAA-MaCC) will observe and celebrate Black History on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Using the theme "Continuing the Quest for History Untold," the program will focus on African-American Businesses: Then & Now.
KAA-MACC will welcome families, friends, and children at the Bethel Baptist Church Enrichment Center to present information on past African-American businesses in ALL areas of Cabarrus County and in southern Rowan County. Phase 1 of the celebration will highlight collections, genealogical research, and African-American entrepreneurship.
Speakers include Leslie Kesler (Cabarrus County Public Library), Lisa Brown (Independent Historian/Member of Shankle & Scott Family), & Stephen & Steve Shipp (Shipp's Fire Extinguisher Sales & Service).
Memorial Tributes will be made to KAA-MaCC's 2016 Legacy Hall of Fame Inductees: George C. Knox and Milton L. Taylor and KAA-MaCC Inaugural Board Member, Ruth M. Curry.
Plan-A-Way will entertain children with face painting and balloons, and Black History Activity Books will be available for children in attendance. Adults can get their shop on at KAA-MaCC's Vendors Alley. Don't forget to capture the moment using the KAA-MaCC's "Selfie-Frame". Also, refreshments will be available at the reception following the program.
