|The Charlotte Independence are a point out of first in USL Championship Group G heading into their final four matches of the regular season. The Jacks, who have won three straight matches, trail Birmingham Legion FC and are eight points ahead of North Carolina FC.|
They sit second in Group G with 21 points at 6-3-3 and a three-game winning streak heading into their final four games of the condensed 16-game, 13-week regular season. They are eight points clear of North Carolina FC, who sit third with 13 points. Charlotte is one point behind group leaders Birmingham Legion FC, whom they beat 3-1 over the weekend.
Charlotte faces NCFC on Sept. 19 and in their regular season finale on Sept. 30. Both matches will take place in Cary. Charlotte also plays Miami and Memphis on Sept. 23 and 26 respectively at home. The Independence has beaten Memphis and NCFC but lost their previous meeting in August to Miami.
Striker Dane Kelly leads Charlotte with 10 goals in his first season with the Jacks. The league’s all-time leading goal scorer signed with the club during the offseason, making an immediate impact, accounting for nearly half of their 21 goals.
Should Charlotte finish the regular season in first or second, they will advance to the playoffs for the third time in club history. The Independence has not made the playoffs since 2017 when they advanced to the postseason for a second straight season.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. Sixteen clubs will play a regionalized single-elimination bracket of group winners hosting runners-up.
