How far would you go to accomplish a goal?

Kendall Ellis, 10, of Charlotte incorporated her musical talents and can-do attitude into selling her allotment of Girl Scout cookies. Kendall, who has been a Scout for four years, created an original marketing video that gained a following on Instagram and more than 1,000 boxes sold for her troop.

“I like helping the community and I like that the girl scouts like to do that,” she said.

Kendall put herself and Troop 2008 in front of a camera and soon became social media famous. Kendall’s vocal coach, Shanka Pettis, along with her mother Diane Ellis, crafted the lyrics but the execution was all Kendall, who was inspired by Beyonce, Ariana Grande and H.E.R. The video has been seen more than 37,600 times.

“It was all really kinda natural what they did and I thought it was great,” Diane said.

When she’s not hang out with friends on her swing in the backyard or singing, Kendall says she enjoys doing activities that give back to the community. Since her video was posteed, donations have come in from all over the U.S. and even other countries.

“We’ve had donations from across the nation from California, Iowa, Idaho, Connecticut just really all over,” Diane said “We’ve even had inquiries from places like India.”

Such exposure from her video has also given Kendall herself a platform to promoting her own songs and albums through the hashtag #SingingGirlScout. The experiences of entrepreneurship and marketing through the video are good preparation for future endeavors.

“I’m so proud it makes me swell up,” Diane said. “I could almost cry. Kendall is a very sweet girl and she loves helping others [as] her grandmother and I are very politically involved it’s great to see her follow the same path.”
