Input on a proposed mixed-use development in the West Boulevard corridor is sought over a series of neighborhood forums.

Mecklenburg County officials and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte will host community meetings in October and November on a project planned for 20 acres at the corner of West Boulevard and Donald Ross Road next to the Stratford Richardson YMCA.

The development could include a new West Boulevard library; community resource center; mixed-income housing that includes affordable units for seniors and market-rate residential units; and commercial space. The Stratford Richardson YMCA, which opened in 2007, would also undergo upgrades.

“With this site, we have a unique opportunity to leverage the strength of the Stratford Richardson YMCA and create a project that will deliver lasting benefits to the west Charlotte community,” Mecklenburg County Manager Dena Diorio said in a statement. “We look forward to meeting with area residents and stakeholders to hear their thoughts in the weeks ahead.”

The meetings will be held at the Stratford Richardson YMCA, 1946 West Blvd.:

• Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. – Development introduction.

• Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. – Breakout sessions on the project’s potential impact on affordable housing; economic opportunity and community building; and health and wellness.

• Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. – Open meeting.

“The Stratford Richardson YMCA is a connecting point where people and community are transformed,” said Todd Tibbits, YMCA of Greater Charlotte CEO. “We are excited to explore the potential of creating an integrated campus where multiple partners come together to build upon a strong foundation of service to the West Boulevard corridor.”

Limited free childcare during the sessions will be available starting at 5:45 p.m. Reservations can be made at http://bit.ly/YMCACommunityEventatSR. Video streaming of the Oct. 11 and Nov. 15 meetings will be online at http://bit.ly/meckcountylivestream.
