Homecoming week events at Johnson C. Smith University
Football, alumni soirees, pageant on menu

Johnson C. Smith University's annual homecoming festivities include a parade along Beatties Ford Road on Saturday, followed by the football game against CIAA rival Shaw University.

It's homecoming at Johnson C. Smith University.

The celebration kicks off with an artist meet and greet at the block and concludes with an alumni dance Saturday at Sheraton Airport  Hotel Ballroom. The high point is the homecoming football game between the Golden Bulls and Shaw University at McGirt Field at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Oct. 16

11 a.m.-3 p.m. – Homecoming kickoff with T-shirts, mechanical bull, artist meet and greet with Da Baby, DJ Stampede Beats and cookout on the Block.

6 p.m. – Annual Golden Bull 5K. Registration starts at 5 p.m., run starts at 6 p.m. Fun Run/Walk starts at 6:05 p.m. Cost is $15 for faculty, staff, alumni and public; $5 for students.

Oct. 17

7 p.m.–Comedy show at Biddle Hall Auditorium with Chico Bean and Karlous Millier from MTV’s “Wild ‘n Out” and hosted by Burpie with DJ Stampede Beats. Cost: $10 for JCSU students, $15 general admission.

Oct. 18

Divine Nine Power Day. Wear black Greek paraphernalia.

12 p.m.–Career and student affairs panel discussion in the Student Union.

6:30-8 p.m. – Up close and personal with JCSU alumni and alumni and student panel discussion in the New Science Center.

7-9:30 p.m.–“Role of Black Greek Letter Organizations in HBCU Campus Life,” Grimes Lounge. Open to all students, faculty, staff and alumni. Please bring plastic recycling bags and plastic bottles for a recycling service project.

11 a.m.-1 a.m.– Chicken and waffles midnight breakfast, Student Union Cafeteria with DJ Stampede Beats.

Oct. 19

6 p.m.–Royal coronation, Biddle Hall Auditorium.

7:30 p.m.–Dr. Jeffrey A. Smith Scholarship fundraiser at Hilton Charlotte University Place, 8629 J M Keynes Drive.

9-10:30 p.m.–Brayboy Madness marks the unofficial kickoff to the 2017-18 basketball season. Meet the men’s and women’s teams, win prizes and enjoy music at Brayboy Gym.

Oct. 20

8:30 a.m.–100 Club golf tournament, Emerald Lake Golf Club, 9750 Tournament Drive in Matthews.

9 a.m.-5 p.m.–Alumni registration at Sheraton Airport Hotel, 3315 Scott Futrell Drive.

10 a.m.-1 p.m.–Academy for alumni leaders at the New Science Center. For class agents, chapter presidents and National Alumni Association officers.

11 a.m.-6 p.m.–Vendors on the Block.

2-2:30 p.m.–NAA Executive Board meeting, New Science Center, Conference Room 102.

2:30-4:30–General alumni meeting, New Science Center auditorium.

3 p.m.–Pep rally hosted by Ms. Jessica The Girl Next Door from Power 98 at Brayboy Gym with DJ Stampede Beats.

5-9 p.m.–Mosaic Village rooftop party with music by DJ Stampede Beats.

6 p.m.-2 a.m.–Hospitality Suite at Sheraton Airport Hotel.


Oct. 21

8 a.m.-12 p.m.–MasterBull griller contest, tailgating lot. All participants must buy a $100 tailgating space.

8:30-10:30 a.m.–Jazz Breakfast at Sheraton Airport Hotel.

10 a.m.-12 p.m.–Homecoming parade from West Charlotte High School to the JCSU campus.

11 a.m.-7 p.m.–JCSU FestiVille with vendors, food trucks, music and games across campus.

12 p.m.–G.O.L.D. Circle Reception (invitation only), Alumni Relations Suite, Biddle Hall Suite 220.

1 p.m.–Homecoming football game, JCSU vs. Shaw University, Eddie McGirt Field.

1 p.m.–Big Hitters tailgate drop-in (invitation only), president’s tent at Irwin Belk Complex.

6 p.m.-2 a.m.–Hospitality Suite, Sheraton Airport Hotel.

7 p.m. – National Pan Hellenic Council Step Show hosted by Angela Yee from “The Breakfast Club,” Brayboy Gymnasium. Cost: $10 for JCSU students and Greek with paraphernalia, $15 general admission.

9 p.m.-1 a.m.–150 Shades of Blue (and Gold), National Alumni Association Dance: Bow Tie, Blue Jeans and Bling Affair, Sheraton Airport Hotel Ballroom. Cost: $25.

1 a.m.–Hospitality Suite, Sheraton Airport Hotel.
