R&B singer Deborah Cox headlines the Charlotte Pride Festival Aug. 26 at 8 p.m.

R&B star Deborah Cox headlines the annual Charlotte Pride Festival on Aug. 26.

Cox, who performs at 8 p.m. on the Wells Fargo Stage in Center City, is a Grammy-nominated, R&B recording artist and actress best known for the double platinum “Nobody’s Supposed to be Here,” which held the record for the longest running No. 1 R&B single. She’s also starring in the musical “The Bodyguard” as Rachel Maron, a role originally played by Whitney Houston.

The Bank of America Charlotte Pride Parade will be held on Aug. 26 from 1-3 p.m. on North Tryon Street. A two-day street festival on South Tryon includes local, regional and national vendors.

Charlotte Pride advocates for the enrichment and empowerment of LGBTQ people in the Carolinas.

Other entertainers will include LOS 5, Keke Wyatt, Cazwell, Katastrophe, “RuPaul's Drag Race” stars Kennedy Davenport, Cynthia Lee Fontaine, Eureka, Alexis Michelle and Shangela, along with local Charlotte-based band Blame The Youth. A new comedy hour, PRIDE LOL, will include Sandra Valls, Matteo Lane and Sam Jay.

Charlotte Pride’s festival is the largest event of its kind in the Carolinas, attracting more than 130,000 visitors last year. It has produced more than $19 million in economic impact from out-of-town visitors to Charlotte over the last two years, including $11.5 million in direct visitor spending, according to the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.

This year’s Charlotte Pride VIP Experience will include an indoor and air-conditioned VIP lounge, with beverages and catered food. VIP passes are on sale at charlottepride.org/vip/.

Deborah Cox is amazing! She performed at Hampton Roads Pride in Norfolk, in addition to the other five times I've seen her. I'm sure she'll put on a wonderful show.
