Are you a part of the Divine Nine, and wondering where the greatest Greek events and fundraisers will take place during the CIAA tournament?
Are you tired of not knowing where your brothers and sisters will be spending their weekend? Well here are a few Greek-related events that will be held the weekend of the CIAA tournaments.
If one were looking for an event that is “For the Greeks” and “By the Greeks,” the “Survive the Tournament” event is a day party for the 21-and-over crowd at the Epicentre. The party is 1-7:30 p.m Feb. 25 at 210 East Trade St.
This party is a fun way to interact and mingle with Greeks from all over the country, and enjoy a day full of events for the Divine Nine. The event will be the social scene for business professionals, professional athletes and respected entrepreneurs.
Greeks will also attend a day party hosted by The Original Circle of Friends, started by a group of mostly Deltas from N.C. Central University. The event takes place 1 to 6 p.m., Feb. 25, at the Fillmore-Charlotte, 820 Hamilton St. Admission is $35, and proceeds provide scholarships to students, most of whom attend HBCUs, according to Ola Hill, an NCCU alumnus, member of Delta Sigma Theta and president of the Circle.
The Circle begin the “original day party’” in 1993, when the women decided to create a group that would shine light on the positive contributions African-Americans make in their own communities.
"It was in 1993, in Richmond Virginia, and it snowed," said Chris Boozer, one of the founding members. “We decided to have a party in the hotel room with a boom box and an open bar.”
The fun continues for Greek life even after the CIAA Week.
‘The Champagne Brunch Celebration,” hosted by the women of the Delta Sigma Theta, Charlotte Alumni Chapter, will take place March 1. The event will also be funded by the Delta Research and Educational Foundation and is invitational to Deltas only. The Mint Museum Uptown at the Levine Center is where the gala will take place, on 500 South Tryon St, Charlotte, 10 a.m -1p.m.
Only 300 tickets will be available, with tickets starting at $30. For more information, contact Muriel A. Evans-Buck at, [email protected] or call (202) 347-1337.
