Wedding: Mr. & Mrs. Frederick Handy Gray III
Bride honors deceased parents with special ceremony during lawn wedding

Newlyweds Rita Josiah and Frederick Handy Gray, III on their wedding day. The couple wed in a lawn ceremony at the home of the groom's parents.

Rita Josiah and Frederick Handy Gray, III were married on May 31 at 2 p.m. at the groom’s family home in Charlotte.

The lawn wedding was officiated by Rev. Paxton Hughes, executive minister of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. The groom’s parents hosted a reception at the Radbourne Club in Charlotte following the Wedding Ceremony.

The bride’s godparents, Johnnie and Freddie Huston of Cincinnati, Ohio represented her deceased parents in a Unity in Sand Ceremony. 

The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. Willie Glen and Mrs. Dorothy Jean Gorham.  She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. William Doll Hines and Mrs. Rose Bell Hines. 

The groom is the son of Dr. Betty Howell Gray of Charlotte and Mr. Frederick Handy Gray, Jr. of Seattle.  He is the grandson of the late Mr. & Mrs. Vasco H. Howell of Goldsboro and the late Mr. & Mrs. Frederick H. Gray, Sr. of Seattle.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her brother, Mr. Glen Gorham. Sister of the bride, Dara Josiah Howze of Rock Hill, served as Matron of Honor.  Sister of the groom, Miss Kimberly Joyce Gray of Houston, served as bridesmaid.  Niece of the bride, Miss Auriel A. Howze of Rockhill, served as junior bridesmaid.

Mr. Cedrick Vasco Gray of Charlotte and twin brother of the groom served as best man. Brother of the bride, Mr. Glen Gorham of Queens, served as groomsman.  Nephew of the bride, Mr. Angelo Howze of Rock Hill, served as usher.  Hostesses, friends of the bride were Mrs. Gwen Shannon and Mrs. Rhonda Houston, both of Charlotte. 

The bride is a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and received her Masters of Arts from Gardner-Webb University.  The groom received his BA Degree in Hotel Management from Seattle College and retired as Petty Officer of the US NAVY in Memphis.

The groom’s parents held the rehearsal dinner at their family home in Charlotte.  An after-wedding party was also held by the bride’s sister Dara Howze and husband Christopher Howze with friends at the Shaunamara Club in Matthews.

Following a honeymoon in Casablanca, Morocco, the couple will reside in Charlotte.
