The NBA team took another step in its rebranding today with the unveiling of three uniforms to be worn for the 2014-15 season – white at home, purple on the road and a teal alternate uniform that can be worn anywhere. The home and road uniforms have the word “Hornets” on the jersey, while the alternate reads “Charlotte.”
In an ode to the original Charlotte Hornets, all three outfits include stripes, V-neck collar on the jersey and Hornets logo on the shorts.
The purple, teal, gray and light blue stripes are on the left side of the uniform. The shorts have a one-color silhouette hornet logo on the waistband and a cell pattern on the bottom left leg with a secondary or alternate logo. The bottom right leg includes tone-on-tone lettering that says “Charlotte” on the home and road uniforms and “Hornets” on the alternate, which assures both words appear somewhere on all three sets.
“It was important for us that our new uniforms reflect the heritage and history of the original Hornets both visually and philosophically, while also having aspects of the evolution to a new brand,” Hornets President & COO Fred Whitfield said. “We wanted a look that was sharp and precise, echoing the attributes of our team. We are elated to unveil our new look to our fans and hope they are as excited by the uniforms as we are.”
The outfits were designed by Nike’s Jordan Brand and the NBA’s Global Merchandising Group. Adidas, the NBA’s official uniform provider, are manufacturing the attire, which will be on display this afternoon in the atrium at the Mint Museum Uptown through July 10. A set will also be on display at the Hornets Fan Shop at Time Warner Cable Arena. Pre-orders of jerseys will be taken at the Hornets Fan Shop in August, with delivery in September.
