JCSU's Hernandez top rookie
Freshman SS third in CIAA batting average

Hernandez, a shortstop from Bloomington, Calif., was third in the conference with a .436 batting average on the year. In addition to her batting average, she led JCSU in hits (48), doubles (12), triples (four), total bases (71), at-bats (111), and games started (36). Hernandez scored 20 runs, batted in 23 runs, and hit one home run.

Fellow freshmen Morgan Hasty and Monique Jefferson were named to the All-Rookie Team with Hernandez. The league and the CIAA Softball Coaches Association honored recipients at the 2014 CIAA Spring Sports Awards Ceremony April 16 at Virginia State. 

Hasty, Hernandez, and Jefferson are ranked in the top three at JCSU in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hits, RBIs, doubles, home runs, total bases, total plate appearances, at-bats, game played, and game started.

Hasty (Salem, Ind.), who plays third base led the Golden Bulls in slugging percentage (.700), on-base percentage (.467), runs scored (24), and home runs (six). She started a team-high 36 games with 35 hits, 20 RBIs, six doubles, and two triples.

Jefferson (West Hills, Calif.), a catcher, finished the season ranked fourth in the CIAA for RBIs with 33 and fifth in homers with five. Jefferson, who started 34 games, scored 15 runs and tallied 36 hits, including seven doubles in 105 at-bats.
