Church attire can be hot and wholesome

It’s no secret that when it comes to dressing for church, the black community has earned a reputation for pulling out all the stops.

Whether it’s donning an elaborate hat or a pair of colored 'gators, dressing to impress is the name of the game. For women, the line between looking fashionable and wearing garments “appropriate” for church is a thin one that can easily be crossed. However, the team at Designed Life Enterprises, organizers of Charlotte’s first Faith & Fashion Week, says there is no need to sacrifice hotness to look wholesome.

“Too often the word ‘hot’ is associated with skin-baring, tight clothing, but it simply does not have to be that way,” Designed Life Owner Quintaria Brunson said.

Brunson and her team will host events in three cities across the country showcasing brands and designers that offer fashion forward clothing that is stylish, yet appropriate for Christian women.

“By no means does being Christian mean that you are required to dress in a frumpy manner,” said Nikki Layne of Designed Life. “Our goal is to balance being modern and current, with being hot and wholesome.”

Events in Charlotte include a networking and designer mixer on March 28 and a fashion show on March 29 at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.

Designed Life Enterprises LLC is a faith-based event management and creative consultant firm based in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area. Visit www.faithfashionmovement.com for more information.
