Johnson C. Smith senior Danielle Williams won three events in the NCAA Division II women’s indoor track and field meet in Winston-Salem. The Golden Bulls finished second in the team standings, the best indoor result in program history.

The Golden Bulls finished second overall and earned 11 all-America honors at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships March 15 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. JCSU, which scored 59 points, was eight points behind Adams State. The Golden Bulls, which finished six points shy of the outdoor national title in 2013, improved five spots from last year’s indoor result.

JCSU senior Danielle Williams won individual national titles in the 60- and 200 meters as well as the 60-meter hurdles. Williams, the Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year, won the 60 meters in 7.32 seconds and the 60 hurdles with a clocking of 8.12.

JCSU junior Samantha Elliott finished second to Williams in the 60 meter hurdles with 8.32 seconds and Elliott placed fifth in the 60 meter dash at 7.53 seconds.

Williams established a new track record in the 200 with a time of 23.80 seconds, smashing the previous standard of 24.05. Elliott finished eighth with a time of 24.75.

Sophomore Tovea Jenkins earned third overall in the 400 meter dash with a clocking of 55.15 seconds; an improvement from her preliminary time of 55.90 on the first day.

The 4x400m relay team of Jenkins, Elliott, freshman Crystal Campbell and freshman Domenique Julius-Williams swept to a new facility record in winning the championship with a time of 3 minutes, 43.33 seconds.

JCSU opens its outdoor season March 21-22 at the Charlotte 49ers Classic at UNC Charlotte.
