Hotel rooms are still available in Charlotte for the CIAA basketball tournament, but it might cost you an arm and a leg.

Each year, hotel prices soar during the CIAA basketball tournament weekend. And some guests feel like the prices do not warrant the treatment.

Wil Laws of Jacksonville, Fla, said last year he stayed at Holiday Inn Airport and felt CIAA guests were being profiled. The hotel distributed guidelines for CIAA guests, but not every guest received the notices.

Among the suggestions in a memo obtained by The Post:  “Please be respectful of guests who are staying with us on business. Excessive noise levels in rooms, hallways or public areas (inside or outside) that disrupt the comfort and rest of other guests will be addressed.”

“How are you going to determine who is worthy of receiving this? It is an egregious act of profiling,” Laws said. “If you are going to give people rules, everybody should get them.”

Since hotels charge extra during the CIAA weekend, they should hire the extra personnel needed to handle the full capacity, Laws said.

Laura Hill of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, said: “Obviously from a CRVA perspective, we are so conscientious of wanting to make sure that every CIAA guest experience is phenomenal. We take stuff like this very, very seriously.”

A message for CIAA Commissioner Jacqie Carpenter was not returned. But in 2010 when the league committed to Charlotte for the next four years, lowered hotel rates were a part of the deal, according to a CIAA press release.

“Key factors that attributed to the contract renewal included lowered hotel rates for CIAA alumni and fans, amenities provided by the city for official CIAA ancillary events, the yearly $1 million guarantee provided by the CRVA, which goes directly to the CIAA GSF, and the room for future growth that the city continuously provides for the Tournament,” the release stated.

On Saturday, the website hotelplanner.com, shows that there are still rooms available in Charlotte ranging from $88 per night to $284 per night, some not far from Time Warner Cable Arena where the CIAA games will be held.
