Baby bumps are now in style as pregnancy fashions have drastically changed over the years.
Long gone are the overstated, frumpy frocks crafted from heavy materials. Today, you can practically wear whatever you want, as long as you keep it classy. Take Kerry Washington for example. The “Scandal” star made a bold fashion statement when she appeared at the 2014 SAG Awards wearing a beautifully embellished rose pink Prada crop top. It just goes to show that you can be pregnant and still have fun with your clothes and even show a little skin and baby bump at the same time.
With spring on the horizon, here are a few fashion trends in maternity wear to keep moms-to-be in style during warmer months:
The crop top: These fashionable tops can be found at any major retailer in an array of fabulous colors and fabrics. To take advantage of this fun look and style-up your baby bump without baring too much skin. Find a top that has a looser fit around the frame of your body and pair it with a high-waist pant or skirt.
Leggings/skinny jeans: Expecting moms can don’t have to say goodbye to this popular trend. For leggings or skinny jeans that are comfortable and fit well, find a pair with a relaxed fit and an elastic band around the belly area for additional support. These pants can be sleek and chic or embellished with accentuated pockets and detailed trimmings.
Boho-chic/baby doll dresses: The look and fit of the baby doll dress is perfect for maternity wear. This style is great because of its relaxed silhouette. It also comes in a variety of styles and can be worn throughout pregnancy. This boho-chic dress is typically made of breathable fabrics, which makes it perfect for winter months. It also pairs nicely with leggings or tights for those cooler days.
High-waist skirts: High-waist skirts are fun and look great with many different tops. You can purchase a skirt that has a wider waist band which may disguise the baby bump or for a more accented look, pair your high-waist skirt with a fitted racerback or camisole top. Wear your top pulled over or tucked into the skirt, allowing your glorious baby bump to be more visible.
The boyfriend button-down: Menswear is cut larger but it doesn’t have to appear bulky. There are many wonderful cuts and lengths to choose from that allow this shirt to frame the women’s physique beautifully. Try a fresh, crisp white button-down shirt with a pair of denim blue jeans.
